Although I pay no attention to the outdated rules about when you’re allowed to wear white (except for the one about the bride being the only one in white at a wedding), lately I’ve been wanting to add some white to my wardrobe. I think the hot weather we’ve been having is to blame, since light colors feel a lot cooler than black. Which reminds me of the summer when I was 6 or 7, and my family took a meandering, cross-country trip from Oregon to Michigan. Part of it involved driving through Death Valley in a black van with no air conditioning. I don’t remember much about that trip other than how hellishly hot it was in the middle of the summer in that black van in the desert. Maybe it would’ve been a bit better in a white van. So in service of keeping cool, I’m on the lookout for some summer whites as inspiration for sewing projects. I think an airy skirt or top is just the ticket, extra points for eyelets and lace for ventilation.
